Merrina Zhang, P. Eng., Senior Research Engineer, Transport Canada
Merrina Zhang is a licensed Professional Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in Transportation. As a Field Engineer with Bombardier Transportation, she was part of the teams that built the Vancouver SkyTrain Millennium Line and the New York JFK International Airport AirTrain. In her role as a scientific research lead at Transport Canada, she was a driver in advancing innovation in the field of transportation, energy and environment. Her notable accomplishments include the establishment of the Canadian Rail Research Laboratory, as well as leading the development of national safety guidelines. During her time at the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, she was instrumental in determining the technical causes and contributing factors of numerous aviation and rail-related incidents. Now, as a Senior Research Engineer at the National Research Council, Canada’s Automotive and Surface Transportation Research Centre, she leads sustainable and climate-resilient surface transportation research.
