Session Description
We will explore this topic with two presentations:
Exploring the Trip Cancellation Behaviour of On-Demand Transit Riders:
On-demand transit (ODT) is expanding globally, offering flexible transit options for the general public, but facing high cancellation and no-show rates. Many ODT systems require passengers to pay as they board the vehicle and not when they book/request the trip, for a seamless integration with their scheduled bus services. However, this leads to increased cancellations, raising operational costs. We present a choice model to predict cancellation probabilities of ODT service using ODT trip data from Southern Ontario. The presentation will conclude with policy implications and recommendations.
The second presentation will be from RideCo. The presentation will identify a working example of an integrated mobility solution in Wellington County that allows customers to select between on-demand transit and Uber rides using RideCoÂ’s on-demand solution. The impact on ridership, availability of trips and lessons learned will be discussed.
