Session Description

We will explore this topic with three presentations:

GRT- How GRTs APC and fare card system enable their level of analysis, how analytics influence decision making, powerful data tools to save time and improve consistency, and next steps for GRT

DRT- Come along Durham Region TransitÂ’s journey of establishing and growing a strong Data and Analytics team. WeÂ’ll look at the What, Why and How of Data Analytics, pacing yourself, and adapting as you go.

CUTRIC- ACES CloudTransit™ Data Trust (ACES): This presentation will introduce ACES as a national resource for daily information on zero emission transit performance for transit agencies across the country, including participating transit agencies, expanded key performance indicators and functionalities, and early reporting.

Lucas Braun – Grand River Transit

Lucas hold a bachelorÂ’s of Urban Planning from the University of Waterloo. In 2019 he joined the planning team of Grand River Transit and has been a driving force in improving the agencyÂ’s ability to make data-driven decisions. A major focus for him has been transitioning ongoing pieces of data work into streamlined reports that make both summary level and detailed information easily accessible.

 

Karen Wesener – Durham Region Transit

With a strong background in engineering and data analysis, Karen has built a well-rounded career spanning multiple industries. Beginning her career with Durham Transit as a Data Analyst in 2022, Karen has contributed to data-driven decision-making and operational strategies in public transportation. She is currently serving as the Acting Program Manager for the Data Analytics Team.

 

Ryan Welfle – Canadian Urban Transit Research & Innovation Consortium

Ryan Welfle, the Intellectual Property (IP) Development Lead at CUTRIC, works to design, advance and automate CUTRICÂ’s IP toolsets, execution, and documentation to enable a wider delivery of efficient fleet electrification planning services to client transit and public / private agencies. Mr. Welfle also engages directly with stakeholders through annual outreach and feasibility and implementation studies regarding data collection, data assessment, simulation modelling results and methodology / technical considerations.

 

Brendon Hemily – Transit Analytics Lab

Brendon is an independent consultant with 42 years of experience working with the transit industry in both Canada and the U.S.A. His area of interest is the implementation of best practices and innovative concepts in order to improve the quality and efficiency of the transit industry. Fare policy has been a specific area of focus and he has provided related advice to ARTM in Montreal, Metrolinx, TransLink in Vancouver, and York Region Transit. Prior to 2000, he worked for 15 years for the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) as CUTAÂ’s Manager of Research and Technical Services, where he was responsible for all technical activities. He is actively involved in various associations including CUTA, the American Public Transportation Association, ITS Canada, and the Transportation Research Board (TRB), where he chaired for 4 years on TRBÂ’s Public Transportation Group which has 12 committees and is past Chair and Emeritus Member of TRBÂ’s Committee on Public Transportation Planning and Development. He serves as Senior Advisor to the University of TorontoÂ’s Transit Analytics Lab.
