Session Description

We will explore this topic with two presentations:

Automated Stop Deficiency Detection System-
In May 2023, York Regional Transit launched the York Region Automated Transit Facility Inspection Program. The program uses AI app CITYROVER and smart camera technology to inspect bus stops for issues like damaged shelters, missing amenities and overflowing garbage bins.
YRT’s fleet of over 500 buses inspects about 40 per cent of more than 6,000 bus stops monthly with just eight cameras. This program significantly reduces the annual inspection costs compared to traditional methods. The data collected helps customer service staff respond more effectively to issues, enhancing efficiency and service quality.

ELSSA (Experience Learning-based System for Supervisor Assistance): Transforming Incidents Records into Explainable Decisions with LLM-
In this presentation, we introduce a Large Language Model (LLM)-based knowledge system that transforms historical incident reports into institutional knowledge for public transit incident management. By converting unstructured data into a structured knowledge graph, the digital assistant captures the practical experience of seasoned personnel and integrates it with official guidelines to provide decision support. A retrieval-augmented generation approach merges these data sources to deliver context-specific recommendations for route supervisors. This framework highlights the potential of advanced language models to provide consistent, transparent, and explainable incident management.
